Air Force? Weight loss? What?..

I haven't updated in what seems like a million years.. soo, here it goes.
**[I apologize in advance if this blog is all over the place & completely out of order. I'm just going to type things as they come to mind.]**

I'm joining the Air Force. I don't know exactly when I'm going to be signing a contract but it will more than likely be the end of this year or the very beginning of next. Before you try to talk me out of it, I've looked into it. I'm not making this decision completely on emotions -- this is just the best thing for ME right now. It's time for me to think about myself & my future. There are a lot of things going on in my life that I can't quite discuss right now but the military is the answer to a lot of things like: college money, my own stability, self satisfaction & time away to figure out myself, & mostly, to better my health & be forced to do it.

So, that being said, I'm trying to lose weight. About 60 lbs to be exact before I leave for AFBMT. I found this website that give a 14 week work out regimen to prepare you for BMT. I was actually going to start it tonight but when I went down to the gym here at our apartment complex and none of the equipment works. I have to do this work out regimen 3-5x a week, it gradually changes over the 14 weeks & by the 14th week, I'll be able to do a 17 minute run. It's basically like training for a marathon but looking at what they expect from you in BMT, I'll need to be able to do that & then sun. So, starting tomorrow I'm going to start working out on the base & maybe catch a few classes. If I don't do any classes, I may just do some on demand or my Jillian Michael's 30 day shred.

I do need some input, though.. which I doubt I will get because I haven't been on here in so long (no commenting or reading) that people probably think I fell off the face of the earth..

My question is:
What are the most effective ways to diet? What was/is your favorite diet? I was doing Weight Watchers for a while but I haven't paid for it & I don't feel like having to pay for a membership. Has anyone counted calories? How did that work for you? I want to pair an easy to follow & stick with diet with my work out.

Thanks in advance :)

  1. I am with you on the weight loss thing! I would like to lose 35 lbs, would be happy with 30. That would put me at a healthy weight for my height, but not as small as I use to be pre-kids LOL.

I've looked into diets too. Really in the end tho, the MAIN thing is that your calories out are more then your calories in.

I was talking to Josh about maybe looking into Hydroxy Cut, or Xenadrin, because I am ALWAYS hungry. He told me about a report he read that a professor did to prove a point to his students abut diets. He went on a Twinkie diet, Not very healthy at all...but he exercised too, and watched how many calories he ate and how much he burned. As long as he burned more then he ate, he lost weight

Good Luck hun! Sorry you have to go on base to workout instead of going to your apartment's gym. Maybe if you lodge a complaint they'll do something about it?

  2. Did WW work for you? If you already know the system, how about using it, but just don't go to the meetings? Other than that, your best bet is to watch portions, cut out junk. Cutting calories gets really tiresome. But there are a lot of great resources out there that show you what a correctly sized portion looks like, instead of constantly measuring or counting out the calories.

  3. I'm thinking about sending in a complaint! It's just crazy to me that none of it works. 3 treadmills & 2 bikes with some weights..

I was thinking about just counting my calories so I know how much I need to burn to know I'm not taking in too many & not putting enough out.

  4. Emmy, I tried counting the calories before but it got really annoying. :/ WW is pretty simple.. especially when it comes to fruit because they equal 0 points & so do diet drinks. We don't drink soda anymore unless we go out & usually we only order tea or something. So, if I were to start counting calories, it would be easy with fruits.

  5. Not sure if you have a smartphone, but there are several different apps you can DL to help you count your calories. I am trying to decide which one to DL for myself. I do know that I need to work on portion control, at least at dinner time. But like I said earlier, I am ALWAYS hungry. But I did just buy some apples, oranges, and peaches (plus banana's for the kids, I hate those things LOL) so I am trying to have good, healthy snacks in the house for me to snack on.
